15 Celebs With the Most Shocking Pasts…They Did What??
Singers, actors, sportspeople, entertainers. We can sometimes be so wrapped up in their public personas that we can be forgiven for sometimes forgetting that they’re real people. Real people that can make mistakes, just like you or us. It’s always exciting when you find something out about a celebrity that you just weren’t expecting, sure. But what if it’s pretty dark? Hey, remember that people can change. What someone did in their past doesn’t necessarily represent their character now. We’ve managed to dig out fifteen secrets from fifteen celebs’ pasts. Seriously – you won’t believe what they did…
Mark Wahlberg – As a young teenager, Wahlberg had already been in trouble with the law some 20-25 times. At fifteen, Wahlberg was convicted of harassing African-American kids both verbally and physically. More seriously, at sixteen, Wahlberg attacked two Vietnamese men, leaving his victims seriously injured. Charged with attempted murder, he pleaded guilty to assault and was committed to two years imprisonment. He only served forty five days. Fortunately, Wahlberg has moved on from his pretty shady past and has announced his regret and sadness at his past actions.
Charlie Sheen – It’s probably not a shock to learn that Charlie Sheen has got previous for drug offences. In 2010 he was arrested for trashing his hotel room and causing $7, 000 in damages. Sheen stated that he committed this offence after a binge on alcohol and cocaine. What is more alarming to hear is that, the year before, Sheen had also been arrested for domestic issues. Namely, assaulting his then wife, Brooke Mueller. He was released the next day and charged with felony menacing, as well as third-degree assault and criminal mischief. Certainly a cautionary tale to avoid illicit substances, if ever there was one.
Ozzy Osbourne – Ozzy Osbourne is well known for being a wild rocker. This was definitely enhanced by his massive misuse of drugs and alcohol throughout his life. Ozzy’s got himself into trouble on several occasions through being intoxicated. Once such occasion in 1982 saw Ozzy get arrested for drunkenly urinating on a cenotaph in remembrance of the Alamo. Ozzy was subsequently banned from San Antonio for a decade. Not much of a punishment, is it?
Matthew Broderick – In 1987, Matthew Broderick was on holiday in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, when the car he was driving veered into the other lane and collided headlong with an oncoming vehicle. The driver and passenger of the other car were both killed instantly. After the incident he was originally charged with death by dangerous driving, however was later convicted of the lesser charge of careless driving much to the family’s disgust.
Tim Allen – Comedy TV and movie star, Tim Allen would be one of the last people you’d expect to have a dodgy past, wouldn’t you? Not so. In 1978 (can’t you tell from that moustache..?), Allen was found dealing large amounts of cocaine by undercover police officers. He would have received a life sentence, that’s how serious his crime was, but this was reduced as he ratted out his fellow dealers.
Bill Gates – Look at Bill Gates in this mugshot. It’s hard to believe that this IT nerd would have ever broken the law. Gates was arrested back when he was nineteen for speeding and driving without a licence. Luckily, he was doing quite well for himself, even back then, so had no problems paying off his fines and bail bonds. Let’s just hope he learnt his lesson.
Jay Z – In 1999, Jay Z was accused of stabbing rival record executive Lance ”Un” Rivera in the Kit Kat Klub, New York City. It’s said that Jay Z’s associates caused a commotion in the club that night, in order to give Jay Z cover to stab Rivera in the stomach. He pleaded not guilty to the offence with his lawyers stating he wasn’t even near the club that night. Suspicious… Jay Z later pleaded guilty to misdemeanor and received three years probation.
50 Cent – Rapper 50 Cent certainly portrays the gangsta image, so it might not be a surprise to learn that, in 1994, Cent was convicted of selling heroin and crack cocaine. He served six months imprisonment in a boot camp style prison for these offences. 50 Cent was also the victim of a pretty serious crime himself, when in 2000, he was involved in a shooting where he was hit by nine bullets and received serious injuries.
Marilyn Manson – Goth heavy metal star, and general weirdo, Marilyn Manson has been arrested for some fairly strange offences in his past. One of which being when he was arrested for ‘violating the adult entertainment code’ by performing oral sex on a man on stage. This turned out to be a female co-performer who was wearing a fake weener. More seriously, Manson was arrested and sued in 2000 for sexually molesting a security guard at one of his concerts. Stick to willing participants in future, eh Marilyn?
Laura Bush – It may be pretty shocking to learn that former first Lady, Laura Bush, was involved in a serious incident back in the ’60’s. Bush was driving when she ran a stop sign and collided with another car. Seventeen year old Michael Douglas (not that one), driver of the other car, was killed on impact. Bush has admitted that Douglas was her friend in high school, however rumours have circulated that the two had been dating however, at the time of the accident, he had been going out with a friend of hers. Bush was not charged with any offences after the accident. Make of that what you will.
Mel Gibson – Mel Gibson has publicly admitted to suffering from alcoholism for many years, so it’s not much of a surprise to learn that Gibson has racked up a few alcohol related offences in his time. He’s been charged with several DUI’s and received several driving bans and probation terms. Unfortunately, Gibson took his arrest for a DUI to a new level in 2006 when he proceeded to racially abuse the Jewish police officer who arrested him. Successfully tarnishing his reputation even further.
Snoop Dogg – Another rapper, here, that likes to portray himself as a bit of a gangsta. And it would seem that being a gangsta goes hand in hand with drug possession. Snoop’s been charged with possession of various drugs on more than one occasion. In 1993 Snoop was also charged with the rather more serious crime of attempted murder after being involved in the shooting of rival gang member, Philip Woldermariam. Snoop was later acquitted of this crime, preferring to stick to drugs offences rather than violence.
Mike Tyson – Boxer Mike Tyson, has amassed quite a criminal record over the years. It seems that his penchant for violence extends outside of the ring. Tyson was charged with battery in 1990 and with rape in 1991, something which he has always vehemently denied. His most famous incident, of course, is biting off the ear of rival opponent Evander Holyfield. Tyson certainly does not seem like a man to get on the wrong side of.
Nick Nolte – Actor Nick Nolte was arrested in 1965 for selling counterfeit documents. This might not sound like that serious a crime, but Nolte faced a 45 year jail sentence. He managed to avoid this sentence but was not allowed to join the military, meaning he did not have to serve in Vietnam. A good thing for us, but Nolte claimed he felt like he missed out as a young man for not serving his country.
Christian Slater – If you have a bit of a thing for handsome charmer, Christian Slater, then these revelations might be enough to put you off. Slater was arrested in 1997 of assaulting his then girlfriend Michelle Jonas and in 2005 was arrested for sexually harrassing a woman on the street. What a douche. He was also caught trying to take a gun on a plane in 1994, so he’s pretty dumb, too.
