We all know that Google is in the middle of a campaign to take over the world. It’s common knowledge. They gobble up companies and data and technology… All while running the internet. Yep – the internet. That we’re on. So we won’t be too unkind. One of the biggest things Google gets up to is mapping the world. Their Google Maps tool has been available for a couple of years now and is massively impressive. As each day goes by, they map more and more of the world. Taking pictures of almost every square inch. But with the millions of photographs taken, sooner or later a few odd shots are going to be taken, right? The occasional strange picture. Well, it turns out there’s more than a couple! And some of these are really messed up…

Damn! Now we’re not exactly certain where this photograph was taken precisely. We’re guessing it was Eastern Europe somewhere, judging by the graffiti on the wall. There are still some small sections over there where it’s like the Wild West. Rural Romania and Albania and places like that. And if that’s the case, then we can see a real-life cowboy right here. Ready for a shoot-out!

We don’t think it’s too crazy a suggestion to put forward the hypothesis that Japan is a little bit of a strange country. They do things very differently over there. They’ve a culture hugely influenced by manga and cartoons and things like that. But it’s still uber weird to see some kind of superhero-type character asleep on a public bench. A homeless Iron Man – we’ve seen it all now.

What do we have here? Is this some kind of bizarre C3-PO convention that the Google Maps cameras just so happened to stumble across? It looks like it could¬†well be. Either that or it’s proof that the robots are finally taking over. Or, perhaps slightly more realistically, the Googles snappers have just caught a few fancy dress partygoers doing their thang.

This picture here might just be the weirdest snap we’ve seen yet. It looks as though someone’s performing some sort of emergency autopsy on someone on the sidewalk. Luckily for all concerned, it’s a hoax – the people involved all knew that Google were doing their roads, so decided to mock up a crazy scene to see if anyone would notice… And they did. Well, we did, anyway!

Now, work this little scene out… A naked dude clambering out of the trunk of a Mercedes as a dog lies (dead?!) nearby. How very, very bizarre. Are we looking at a botched kidnapping plot? A sex game gone wrong? Or, again, another set of jokers mocking up a situation for a laugh? Who knows… Maybe someone should ask the dog.

It was always going to happen sooner or later – the Google Maps photographers were going to catch a pair of deep sea divers chasing each other with garden implements. Hardly a day goes by where we live without a diver running after a colleague, brandishing something like a hoe or trowel or something. So, catching it on celluloid was always an inevitability.

Scientists, biologists, zoologists and cryptozoologists have spent decades looking for the now-famous ‘Sidewalk Horseman’. Teams of hundreds of experts have scoured the sidewalks and pavements of the world every day for years, but to no avail. Nothing was ever found. And yet it took Google Maps no time at all to track down the Sidewalk Horseman. He was there all along. Just chillin’.

Finally! Some proof that skeletons ride mobility scooters! We’ve been telling everyone we meet for years that these bag o’ bones types drive little four-wheeled scooters about the place, but no one ever believes us. They think we’re making it up, but luckily we’ve now found proof of their existence. Thanks, Google Maps!

WTF?! This is the stuff of nightmares right here. This looks less the result of a Google Maps camera car being sent out to take stock of the landscape and more the pictures after a photoshoot to promote some scary new horror movie from the makers of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The facts that this Halloween-y scene is from the daytime and full of kids is somehow even scarier…

As humans we’ve managed to achieve many things on this planet. Many truly great things. But changing the seagull’s diet so that it now only eats burgers and French fries is not one of them. Seriously, this scene from a British seaside town shows one of these new breed of obese supergulls that love nothing more than scoffing down a Super Sized Meal. And these Google Maps camera crew have snapped him. Presumably before he went back for the large Coke.

Halfcat! This little 50% moggy caused quite the stir online a couple of years back, with people clamouring to answer the question, ‘just what is this strange half a cat all about?’ Theories ran wild as people discussed the possibility of the feline being some weird new breed. Or alien. Alas, it turned out just to be the result of a camera trick from one of the Google cars.

Some of these pictures here are, admittedly, a little dull. You know, we’re just looking at an empty parking lot in this one. Sorry, we should have found a slightly more exciting picture for you, shouldn’t we? Ho hum. *sigh*

Hang on… Is that a… What the… Right. So there’s a tiger strolling through that car park. No biggy, right? Right.

Here’s a nice, normal, suburban street. Looks quite nice, you could imagine living down the street, couldn’t you? With your other half, maybe some kids, perhaps even a little dog. Just watch out, only the houses in this street often suffer from enormous Great White Shark attacks. They fly head-first straight into the roof. They’re a real pest.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A city famous for many things. Like being the homeland of the Pittsburgh Steelers. And also hosting roadside Samurai fights every day of the year. Often you can’t walk down the street in Pittsburgh for ancient ninja warriors fighting to the death. Like sharks in suburbia, Samurais are a nuisance. And we’ve Google Maps to thank for pointing this out to us.

Now here’s a depressing image. In fact, it doesn’t get a whole lot more depressing than this, does it, really? A wild horse eating a pile of garbage against a graffiti-tagged wall. So while we’re glad Google snapped these other images, we’d rather have done without this image. Urgh, it’s enough to make you cry. What a note to end on. Sorry, readers.
